Bee Gives Network Buzz
On October 19, “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” gave a boost (of sorts) to the start-up, video-on-demand network Shalom TV. As part of the Comedy Central hit’s regular “The Week in God” segment, correspondent Samantha Bee played a clip in which Mark Golub, network president and CEO, welcomed viewers to what he termed “the first national Jewish television network.” After the clip, Bee replied, “Finally, a TV network run by Jews!” To call Shalom TV a “national” network is, as of yet, a bit optimistic.
For now, it can be seen only in southern Pennsylvania and northern Delaware. Given the network’s small size, “The Daily Show” segment was perhaps a little unkind. (Bee riffed on how the network name can perhaps best be translated as “Goodbye TV.”) Nevertheless, Golub clearly relished the exposure. In a press release, he called the bit “extremely well done.”
