Warning: Your Sukkah could be mobbed this year – by a pack of Jewish artists
From October 9-13 the “Sukkas Mob,” led by performer/director Jenny Romaine of Great Small Works theater group, will be making the rounds in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Long Island. The artists will explore the traditional aspects of the holiday while infusing it with secularism, humor and art – and attempt to trigger some public discussions of contemporary issues in the process.
Funded in part with a grant from The Forward Association, the artists – who range in age from 20-60 and come from across the Jewish denominational spectrum, will meld Klezmer, Yiddish and Persian music, spoken word, stories and other Judaic theatrics.
October 10: Times Square at 6:30pm
October 11: East Meadow, LI at 4:30pm; Great Neck, LI at 5:30pm
October 12: Outside the Jewish Museum of New York at 1 p.m.
October 13: Dumbo Arts fest, Front and Adams streets as part of Great Small Works spectacle of Rising Tide at 8:15 p.m.
For more info call the “Sukkas Mob” hotline (212-787-8457) and ask for Jenny.
