Great Day on Eldridge

In 1958, a group of renowned Jazz musicians posed for a now iconic image known as “A Great Day in Harlem.” Inspired by this precedent, this month Yale Strom will bring together musicians from around the world specializing in klezmer for “Great Day on Eldridge,” a 10-day series of concerts and programs in New York City and throughout New York State. The events are part of The Eldridge Street Project, which is celebrating the restoration of the 1887 Eldridge Street Synagogue this fall – the 120th anniversary year of the landmark building. Festivities begin on October 12, with a procession of more than 75 klezmorim down the streets of the Lower East Side, followed by a concert at Seward Park.

Can’t make it? Jon Kalish, an award-winning radio reporter and frequent contributor to the Forward, will take readers on an aural tour of the festivities in a podcast that will be posted on www.forward.com shortly after the event.
